World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5 June every year globally to encourage awareness and positive action for the protection of the environment. WED is the United Nations’ most important annual event to call for action to save the environment since 1974.
This year’s theme is REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE.
It is high time to think about our changed ecosystem. We need to stop, prevent and reverse the damage done to our environment. With our joint efforts, we can restore the ecosystem in order to make our planet and our lives healthier. We can grow trees; make our cities green and clean the rivers and coasts.
This year marks the beginning of UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021 – 2030.
Did you know?
It’s time for nature:
The air we breathe, the foods we eat, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. Despite all the benefits that our nature gives us, we still mistreat it. Nature is on the verge of a breakdown, now it’s time #ForNature.
The emergence of COVID-19 has also shown us that, when we destroy our ecosystem, we are upsetting the delicate balance of nature. By disturbing this balance, we have created ideal conditions for pathogens like coronaviruses to spread.
We are intimately interconnected with nature. If we don’t take care of nature, we can’t take care of ourselves. Nature is sending us a message to care for ourselves, to care for nature.
This is our moment. Together we can be #GenerationRestoration to revive and protect our ecosystems.
It’s time to build back better for People and Planet.
