It has many health benefits. It is used both as food and medicine. It is Anti-tumorigenic, Antioxidant, Anti- inflammatory, Analgesic, Anti-asthmatic, Anti-bacterial, Hepatoprotective, Diuretic, Anti-dysenteric, Appetizer, Astringent, Blood Purifier, Cathartic, Cholagogue, Demulcent and Antipyretic. Specially used in the treatment of viral hepatitis, Jaundice, Visceral inflammations, Gastric inflammations, Gout, Ear pain, Cough and Cold, Convulsions, Dropsy, Cervical carcinoma, General Debility, Flatulence, Fever, Peptic ulcers. etc. This plant's leaves are specially used to treat mouth ulcers. Poultice of the leaves are also applied to burns and considered good for ulcers.
